Tiny Gifts

March 16, 2013

StoriesI’ve never been a person who is comfortable talking about myself. An introvert by nature I have been a listener most of my life. As a listener I have always loved stories and story tellers. The good ones would draw me in, churn me up and send me on my way a different person.

A story, well told, gets under our skin…makes us think, evaluate and see ourselves and the world through another’s eyes. They often make us feel less alone and more visible to ourselves. I have come to see the value in sharing a story or two of my own now, from time to time. For I have discovered that in the telling of it I am also transformed.  A meaningless life event takes on a richer hue and a broader purpose and occasionally I find myself in the role of teacher to another…a blessing more to me than to them, perhaps.

Stories are meant to be told and re-told, to be allowed to live as a creative force apart from the teller.  They are tiny little gifts we give to each other.  I welcome yours and I know others do too. ~ Dorothy

So true. And if my story has common threads with yours, your will resonate with me, move me.

That is what stories are about. A sharing of lives that makes a community between two or more friends, villages, nations, worlds. If we could all share and hear the stories of everyone around us, there would be no “Other.” We would all be one.
